HD export · 4 credits

The 3000x3000 master is a separate AI upscale that costs 4 credits and keeps your text sharp.

Two ways to add text

Let the AI letter your title into the artwork, or place exact, editable text on top in the browser.

Style presets

Start from a cover style

Eight direction presets shaped for album art. Tap a card to apply its look, then describe your own scene.

Workflow

How it works

1

Describe the artwork

Tell the generator the scene, objects, and mood behind your song. The more concrete the image, the better the cover.

2

Pick style and text

Choose one of eight style presets — or none — and decide how the title appears: AI lettering, exact overlay, or none.

3

Generate the cover

Each render costs 4 credits and takes about 10–20 seconds for a square 1024x1024 image.

4

Preview and export

Download the free 1024px preview, or export a 3000x3000 HD master in JPG or PNG for your distributor.

Platform specs

Cover size requirements by platform

Square cover art works almost everywhere, but each platform publishes its own rules. These are the numbers that matter when you release.

PlatformRequirementsSource
Spotify1:1 square; 640–10000 px per side; TIFF, PNG, or JPEG lossless encoding; sRGB 24-bit; don't upscale images; no embedded color profiles or orientation metadata.Spotify for Artists
Apple Music1:1 square; 3000x3000 or larger recommended, 1400x1400 minimum; JPEG or PNG at 100% quality; RGB; never enlarge smaller artwork to fit.Apple Digital Packaging Apple Asset Guide

About upscaling: Spotify and Apple both ask you not to enlarge small images. Our HD export uses an AI upscaler that redraws detail rather than stretching pixels, and most distributors accept it — but if yours rejects upscaled art, download the 1024px original instead. It clears Spotify's 640px and DistroKid's 1000px minimums, though it sits below Apple's 1400px floor.

Readability

Make the title readable at thumbnail size

Most listeners first see your cover at 60–80 pixels in a playlist. These rules keep the art legible when it shrinks.

  • Zoom out to playlist size. If you can't read the title at a small thumbnail, simplify it — one short line beats two long ones.
  • Keep titles under about 24 characters. Long titles shrink into noise; save the full phrase for the release metadata.
  • Use the exact overlay when legibility matters. Browser-rendered text stays crisp at any size — AI lettering can blur on busy art.
  • Give the text a quiet place. Dark art calls for light text, light art for dark text; the overlay tone control handles it in one click.
  • Stay inside the safe zone. Keep lettering away from edges and corners where app badges and rounded crops can clip it.
  • Leave out extras. No URLs, QR codes, prices, or platform logos — distributors like DistroKid reject artwork that contains them.

Questions

Album cover FAQ

Is the album cover generator free?

Designing in the tool is free. Each cover generation costs 4 credits, the HD 3000x3000 export costs another 4 credits, and downloading the 1024px preview of a generated cover is free. Lyria3 AI doesn't currently include signup or daily bonus credits, so you'll need a paid credit balance to generate — check Pricing for packs.

Can I use the cover commercially — and who owns it?

You can use your generated covers on releases under the site's Terms, including distribution to streaming platforms. One caveat: in some jurisdictions — for example under US Copyright Office guidance — purely AI-generated images may not be registrable for copyright. That doesn't stop you from releasing with them; it just means exclusivity can't be guaranteed. Keep the art original: no real artists' likenesses, logos, or trademarks.

What size is the finished cover?

Generation produces a square 1024x1024 image — already above Spotify's 640px minimum and DistroKid's 1000px floor. The HD export runs the artwork through an AI upscaler and hands you a 3000x3000 master in JPG or PNG, the size Apple Music recommends.

Will the cover pass Spotify's requirements?

Yes, if you keep it clean. Spotify wants a 1:1 square between 640 and 10000 pixels, TIFF, PNG, or JPEG, sRGB color — and explicitly asks you not to upscale images. The 1024px original qualifies as-is; the HD export is an AI-redrawn upscale most releases pass with, but the original is the safe pick if your distributor flags it.

What about Apple Music?

Apple Music recommends 3000x3000 or larger with a hard minimum of 1400x1400, as JPEG or PNG at full quality in RGB — exactly what the HD export produces. As with Spotify, Apple asks artists not to enlarge small images; the upscale redraws rather than stretches, but approval is your distributor's call.

Can I put my song title and artist name on the cover?

Two ways. AI lettering bakes the title into the artwork during generation — it looks painted, but can misspell long or unusual names. Exact overlay renders your title in the browser instead, so the text is always spelled right and stays free to restyle — fonts, colors, and position after generating.

Can it make a cover that looks like a famous album or a real singer?

No — by design. The generator won't produce real people's portraits or likenesses, and prompts steer it away from existing album covers, logos, and trademarks. Original artwork only; if you want a photo of yourself on the cover, shoot the photo and use the overlay to add text.

Does it work with songs I made here?

Yes. In the music studio, every finished track has a Make album cover action that sends the song title and style tags to this page — the title field comes pre-filled, so you only describe the artwork. Make the song first, then design its cover.
